THE STORY
I wanted this recording to capture the intoxicating feel that my band has when we play live. Studio recordings have a hard time coming up with the kind of organic sound that happens live, in front of an audience. This recording was made in my home studio, set up in a way where we could play with no headphones, in order to hear a more" live" sound. Once things were set up and ready, John clicked his sticks and away we went. All the performances were played live with no fixes.
The entire project was recorded using Royer Labs ribbon mics. For mic preamps, seven Avalon 737s, four Neves, one Manley, and one GML were employed. The music was recorded into the MOTU 1296 Digital Performer System (24 bit, 88200htz) using a dual processor Power Mac G4.
